Please join the Lillian Goldman Law Library and Professor Judith Resnik on November 8, 2017, 12:10-1:15pm, in SLB 127 for a fun and fascinating exploration of legal iconography and illustrated law books.
What is a “talking picture”? How does looking at books about law – and at their changing illustrations over time – provide windows into legal norms and aspirations? Exhibit curators Mike Widener (Rare Book Librarian) and Mark Weiner ’00 (legal historian, Professor of Law at Rutgers) will provide some answers using illustrations from law books in our Law Library’s collection. Judith Resnik, Arthur Liman Professor of Law, and co-author of Representing Justice: Invention, Controversy and Rights from Renaissance Town Halls to Democratic Courtrooms, will provide commentary.
This talk is in conjunction with the Lillian Goldman Law Library’s exhibit, Around the World with Law’s Picture Books, on display through December 15 on L2 adjacent to the Rare Book Room.
Lunch will be served.
Note: This event was originally scheduled for Nov. 3 but has been moved to Nov. 8.
