Library Tip: YLS Scholarship Repository

November 30, 2015

Dear Students:

Are you familiar with the Yale Law School Legal Scholarship Repository?

The Yale Law School Legal Scholarship Repository is our online, open access website containing almost all Yale Law School faculty legal scholarship published in U.S. law journals, as well as a great deal of student scholarship and entire runs of four Yale Law journals. The repository is recognized as one of the most valuable free portals of legal scholarship available on the internet. At the Yale Law School, the digital repository is now treated as the central digital archive of professors’ work, past and present. It plays a vital role in our preservation efforts for the Law School and represents the institutional memory of the school’s scholarship. In addition to faculty and student scholarship, the repository houses a number of unique collections worth exploring.

Of particular interest are the Special Collections where you will find many of our unique treasures, fully digitized and ready to download. Here you will find special collections of U.S. and European legal history, and collections concerning the history of Yale Law School.

Papers relating to the annual Seminario en Latinoamérica de Teoría Constitucional y Política (SELA), a gathering of top legal scholars from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Perú, Puerto Rico, Spain and the United States, are housed in the repository, and point to the global nature of this resource.

Beyond our own community, the Repository enjoys incredible global reach, and has become a fabulous tool for outreach across virtually every country in the world. One can see our global reach with a new feature we’re very excited about: the Readership Activity Map. The map provides a real-time visualization of full-text downloads across the globe. The moment Yale Law School scholarship is downloaded from our repository, a pin will drop on our Readership Activity Map, showing us what’s being read in real-time. From Sydney to Singapore to Slough to Salt Lake City, if there are people interested in our collection, there are pins on our map to prove it. The Readership Activity Map is a wonderful way to experience the global impact of Yale Law School’s scholarship, in real time. Take a look at the Yale Law School Legal Scholarship Repository today!
