Mike Widener became the Rare Book Librarian at the Lillian Goldman Law Library in 2006, after 14 years as Head of Special Collections at the Tarlton Law Library, University of Texas at Austin. He is also on the faculty of the Rare Book School, University of Virginia, where he has taught the course “Law Books: History & Connoisseurship” since 2010. He edited and contributed to Public Services Issues with Rare and Archival Law Materials (Haworth Press, 2001), and has authored authored several articles and book reviews in the fields of archives, rare books, and legal history. He has spoken at conferences in the U.S., Mexico, Italy, and Sweden. He has been a consultant to the law libraries at Texas Tech University and St. Mary’s University on their rare book collections. He and his wife, Emma Molina Widener, have been consultants to the law libraries at the University of Wyoming and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and have translated preservation manuals into Spanish for SOLINET. He was the 2012–13 Chair of the Legal History & Rare Books Special Interest Section, American Association of Law Libraries. He is a member of the Grolier Club, and the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut Supreme Court Historical Society. He has a Master’s in Library & Information Science and Bachelor of Journalism degrees from The University of Texas at Austin.
