Banned Books Week

September 22-28 is banned books week in libraries across the country. This year the library is highlighting the theme “Literature Locked Up” focusing on reading materials bans in U.S. prisons. In an exhibit in the L3 reading room the library displays the “disapproved materials list” from 17 states. From pornography to Pulitzer Prize winning fiction, dungeons and dragons manuals to vocational training materials, the censorship of reading materials in prisons affects more than 2 million people in the United States, making it the largest ban on reading materials in the nation.
