The generative AI disruption is omnipresent. It seems there isn’t a field that isn’t dealing with the consequences of generative AI, grappling with how to incorporate it (or not), regulate it and to what extent, and adjust to the new realities. The European Union has passed the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689), which aims to be the first “comprehensive, horizontal, and legally binding” attempt at regulating AI, addressing the classification of AI according to its risk, the responsible parties for high-risk AI systems, the liabilities and obligations of deployers of high-risk AI systems, and articulating minimum standards for general-purpose AI systems. In addition, it identifies prohibited, high-risk, and general-purpose AI systems and sets out an initial AI governance plan.
The Congressional Research Service (CRS) has published numerous reports on the impact of AI. See, for example, Artificial Intelligence: CRS Products (April 14, 2026).
