Google Scholar: Beyond the Basics

Kayleigh Bohémier, Melanie Maksin, Gwyneth Crowley, Lori Bronars

12 November 2012 / 17 Hillhouse (room 07), 4:00-5:00 PM

No one can deny that Google Scholar is a powerful tool for researchers—but we've all had that experience where we can't find what we want and have no idea how to get the best sources. Whether your searches yield too many results, too few relevant results, or results that might not be the most current scholarship in a discipline, this workshop will demonstrate advanced search techniques for navigating Google Scholar more effectively and efficiently.

We'll go over common—and hidden—search operators, how to find the full text of Google Scholar citations in Yale's catalog and databases, and tools for tracking when your publications have been cited. This session will be about 45 minutes long, with plenty of time at the end for your questions.

This workshop will be held in the library classroom in 17 Hillhouse. The classroom is on the lower level—from the entrance, just take the elevator or stairs down one floor and look for room 07.

All members of the Yale community are welcome to attend this presentation. To register, please visit https://schedule.yale.edu/event.php?id=169317
